LBL Equine Rescue Holds First Annual Wild Mustang Trainer Challenge


LBL Equine Rescue is holding their First Annual Wild Mustang Trainer Challenge. The Judging Day Event will be held on July 20, 2019. Judging begins at 10:00 am. You will get to watch their trainers show off what they’ve done with their wild horses and compete for prizes.

All horses will be placed up for adoption. Pre-approval and site visits are mandatory and can be done before the event. Go to for more information on the adoption process, to download the adoption contract, and to schedule an appointment. The event will also feature vendor booths, food, raffles, and music. Learn more about LBL and meet their team. LBL Equine Rescue is a non-profit that’s been in place for nearly 4 years. Their focus is on owner surrenders, neglect/abuse cases, and injured wild Mustangs from the range.

A Success: Fourth Annual Spirit of the West

The Wild Horse Preservation League based in Dayton, and the Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association, based in Virginia City Highlands held their 4th annual Spirit of the West fundraising event at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City on June 15th. The staff was superb and the Mansion was the perfect place to hold this event. Attendees enjoyed the music of Athena McIntyre of Virginia City and Emcee Eddie Floyd. Lance Gillman, a wild horse enthusiast and supporter, and Storey County Commissioner, also attended and gave a generous donations through purchases as well as a check, to support the efforts of these two local groups. Comstock Mining donated 2 coins for the auction and permit darting on their land. There were numerous generous donations which were in the silent auction, as well as a raffle to add to the funds raised. Mark Terrell, a local wild horse photographer offered his work to those in attendance and raised $1800 for the wild horse efforts. 

The event also honored the work of Bonnie Matton, an original founder of the Wild Horse Preservation League, and it’s President for 15 years. The evening was a success for the wild horses and fun was had by all. We are already looking forward to the next Spirit of the West!

Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund Hosts Annual Fundraiser

Hidden Valley Wild Horse Protection Fund held its annual fundraising event on June 9th at the Tamarack Junction Casino in Reno. The event focused on raising funds to complete their new Virginia Range Mustangs Sanctuary at Equine Legacy Ranch where all of the rescued VR horses in their care will be located. They had live music by Billy Bensing, raffle and auction, video presentation showing their new sanctuary land, slide show showing some of the rescued horses in their care, yummy dinner, and some fun games with prizes for all to play! 

Proceeds from the event were going directly to finishing the fencing of phase one of the sanctuary including the hay storage area and to the water system, including trenching, pipes, non-freezing waterers and second water storage tank.
